"Face mask us" project - phase 1
NINA APS has managed to stand alongside the indigenous communities of Ecuador in the months that marked the first wave of the health crisis, providing masks in washable and biodegradable fabric, made with the help of indigenous women of the AsotexChambi association. These women having their own sewing machine, help their communities to cope with the health emergency.

The objective pursued were:

-
Fighting the spread of Covid-19 within the indigenous Amazonian communities of the Napo region, Ecuador, by distributing masks and making people aware of the importance of preventive measures such as: washing hands, maintaining social distance and when and why to wear the mask;
-
Reducing the amount of waste produced by single-use personal protective equipment that is becoming a new form of pollution of the Amazon rainforest and its rivers by providing people with ecological and reusable masks (made of 100% cotton);
-
Promoting the empowerment of women from local indigenous communities by involving them in the production of masks and making them agents of social change during this emergency.
